25 weeks

Drumroll please!! The baby in my belly is a....... GIRL! Apparently you readers know what you're talking about. Not sure why I didn't wear a pink shirt for this picture...

How exciting! We are thrilled and can't wait to drown in all the pink. Really, I never thought I would say that but I am somewhat excited about little girl outfits, and pig tails, and all that stuff.

At this moment we are loving the name Violet. I can just picture myself yelling it and telling her to stop bugging Ezra. It just seems to fit.

At the ultrasound the tech had a difficult time getting all the photos she needed because little Violet was such a wiggle worm. Apparently she will share this trait in common with her brother. Everything looked great, she's right on target.

Here's an ultrasound photo for you:

Little Miss Violet @ 20 weeks

How far along? 25 weeks

Weight gain: I think right around 10 pounds.

Belly measurement:

Stretch marks? Yup.

Sleep? Not great. I'm soooooooooo tired, and can't really nap (insert photo of energetic 10 month old). Napping also makes me nauseous, but I also can't really sleep at night so I'm just tired.

Best moment this week? Seeing a picture of myself with Ezra in my maternity bathing suit and not throwing up. Seriously. I feel like a whale but I'm happy to see that I don't actually look like a whale, even when I'm on the beach.

Food cravings: Cheesecake. Can someone please get me a delicious piece of cheesecake? or a whole cheesecake? I got a piece at Longhorn the other night and it was not good. Very disappointing when you've been fantasizing about a slice of cheesecake for weeks. If someone walks by me with a slice, I hope someone is there to hold me back...

Weirdest symptom: Shooting pain up my left butt cheek. Seriously. Add in a morning charlie horse and you've got a weird symptom. "I know I'm walking funny but I'm not cripple, just having some sciatic pain and a charlie horse." I almost wish someone could take some video when this happens, would surely win $10,000 on America's Funniest Videos.

Funny Pregnancy Moment: Me on a bicycle. Just picture it, you'll laugh, I promise.

I thought it would be fun to go for a bike ride with Mike and Ezra while on vacation at the beach. Well let's just say it wasn't fun and ended up with me nearly throwing up all over myself. But at least I can laugh at it now. I'm sure all the people in the campsites we walked our bikes by were laughing at me - and with reason.

Labor signs: Just a scheduled c-section date and paperwork to prove it! December 2nd, here we come! And to think, Violet will most likely share a birthday with one other special little lady...

Belly button in or out? totally in, and still pretty cavernous. I could probably hide some things in there if I needed to, like my iPhone or a slice of cheesecake for when I have a craving.

Movement? I'm feeling a lot more movement on the top of my belly which tells me that she is probably head down. She is a mover.

What I miss? Hmmmm, nothing really this week. But next week I will be missing my summer vacation...

What I'm looking forward to: The cooler days of Fall. I'm really excited for cider, and pumpkins, and sweatshirts. I will miss the beach, but I do enjoy Fall so much.

Weekly wisdom: If you see a pregnant woman holding a baby who looks hot and sweaty walking towards a chair at an aquarium, don't take the seat before she gets there. It's just not nice.

Milestones: Made it past the halfway point. One more week until viability...

Deja Vu...

So, if you haven't heard Em & M are expecting baby number 2 this December!! EEEK!  We were a little *ahem* surprised at the quickness of this development, seeing that it took a year and a half for Ezra.

That being said, we are THRILLED to add a new member to our family!  We're also FRIGHTENED at how difficult it may be at first, but we know that others have come before us and survived so we will, too.  Possibly sacrificing some of our sanity in the process, but isn't that what parenting is?

Here's a picture of the newest em&m from my first ultrasound at 10 weeks:

So we'll be back on board with the almost weekly updates (hey, no one's perfect)!

How far along? 15 weeks

Weight gain/loss: At my last appointment I was up 3 pounds... although it feels like 23

Maternity clothes? All the time, there is no doubt that I look pregnant.  Round belly, stickly legs, larger boobs.  I've tried to wear some of my non maternity stuff, but who am I kidding?  I do not need to feel like a sausage all day and I'm sure I look ridiculous when I do it.

Stretch marks? Of course.  Ezra's stretch marks are now turning purple again.  (I'm hoping no one just threw up their lunch with that visual).  All I can say is that I hope they don't get worse...

Sleep? Sleep is good... I am having very vivid anxiety inducing dreams.  For example, last night I was chasing someone and trying to attack them.  I don't remember why, but I woke up feeling a little worried.  I had vivid dreams with Ezra, but not anxious dreams.  So I will say that it doesn't always feel like restful sleep.

To be completely honest though, I do go to bed between 9 and 9:30.  So I'm getting more than enough sleep!

Best moment this week? Probably having to explain to my students why you shouldn't ask any woman, no matter how obviously pregnant she is, if she's having a baby.  They had a difficult time understanding why that was a problem (see photo below) but it was funny to watch their faces drop when I told them that sometimes people can look pregnant and not be, so basically they just told me that I look fat.  I did have a little fun and wait until the end of the conversation to tell them that I was in fact having another baby.  Maybe that was a little mean, but it made me laugh!

Food cravings: Mike makes the most delicious cooked carrots.  I could eat them all day.  Basically they are just steamed with butter but I swear I've never eaten such delicious carrots... I hope I can convince him to make some for dinner...

Gender: Ack, who knows?  I have no real feeling one way or the other.

Belly button in or out? In and cavernous.  Seriously, you could spelunk in there .  I'll get you a head lamp (That's cave exploration in case you were going to google that word).  I think it's just stretched out from Ezra, but I've never seen such a big belly cave.

Movement? If I lay really still and think about it, sometimes.  But what working mother of a 7 month old has time to sit still and think about it? Not I!  I'm either chasing a crawling baby or trying not to fall asleep in my dinner.  So I'll probably notice more once he or she is making direct hits to a major organ.

What I miss? I'm going to be honest, this weekend we went to Storyland in New Hampshire (which is basically a theme park for little kids) and of course Bike Week is this week so we saw lots of bikes.  I'm desperately missing riding my motorcycle... BUT, I would not change anything.

What I'm looking forward to: The end of school - don't tell my principal.  I'm so done with school.  I can't wait for a change of pace.  I will be working half days 3 days a week at summer school, but I shouldn't really have to sacrifice much beach/pool/park/Ezra time so it's ok.  And I can bank some money in savings ;)

Weekly wisdom: Today I am pregnant, and I love my baby.

Milestones: I'm in the second trimester, that's exciting!

Here's a 15 week belly shot:

Update...

How far along? 40 weeks 3 days

Weight gain: I've decided that all you need to know is that it is more than 30 pounds, which is totally normal. ;)

Belly measurement:

Stretch marks? Yup and they keep popping up.

Sleep? Could be better, but its ok.

Best moment this week? My birthday!!  Ice cream cake makes everything better and it was nice to have some time with family and friends

Food cravings: nothing really

Weirdest symptom: My belly button... hurts.  I have to roll my pants down so there's no pressure on it and I have to be careful if I rub against something and my belly button hits.  I really can't believe something so insignificant every other time in my life has caused me such grief this week.

Funny Pregnancy Moment: I couldn't get enough breath to blow out my own candles.  My 3 year old niece had to blow them out for me.

Labor signs: Update - 2-3 cm dilated according to my doctor last Thursday.  Impressive.  I've been having some "cramping" but nothing really timeable.  The doctor stripped my membranes today (google that one) so I'm cramping right now, but we'll see if that turns into labor.  She seemed pretty convinced that I'd have the baby before my appointment next Wednesday.  If not, we schedule an induction.  (it is now Tuesday, no baby...)

Belly button in or out? Halfway out.

Movement? He's pretty still, but I think he doesn't have a lot of space to move around anymore.  Sometimes I think he's trying to poke his hand out of my cervix and wave hello...

What I miss? looking forward to my due date as an end point.  Everyday that I go over is one less day that I get to spend with the little guy before I go back to work!!

What I'm looking forward to: Seeing him, holding him, meeting him!  I can't wait for him to be here!!

Weekly wisdom:  Babies R Us is evil.  They suck you in with coupons and promotions but they're always on weird dates and have strange restrictions.  I've discovered the prices on their clearance items aren't that great either, disappointing.  I placed a $130 order and they are now telling me there is a computer glitch which is preventing me from getting my Rewards points on the purchase, but they hope to fix it... one day.  I try to avoid them, but they really do have a lot of things that other places don't!!

Also, don't put a towel under your carseat when you go to have it inspected.  Apparently the installation book from the manufacturer says it's ok but the Federal Government doesn't.  Friendly emails have been sent but I haven't heard back from anyone.

Milestones: My due date is clearly in sight...in my rear view mirror

Me and baby - hopefully the last belly picture!!

Dear Ezra,

You should be on the outside any day now.  I can't wait to count your little toes and kiss your cheeks.  I can't wait to see who you look like, if you have hair, and see how big you're going to be.  I'm so excited for your arrival, I can barely think of anything else these days!!

You've led quite an exciting inside life up to this point.  You've been to the hospital, twice.  You've lived through a car accident - Daddy broke 10 ribs.  You've been on a road trip to Washington DC to visit your cousin John.  You've been to 4 Boston Red Sox games.  You've been camping, swimming in the ocean and the pool, snuggled with the dogs, and kicked a few loved ones.  You've been to weddings, parties, cookouts, motocross races, concerts, and the movies.

Some things you can look forward to:
-snuggling with your two crazy dogs
-working with Daddy in the garage
-shopping trips with Mom
-Halloween costumes
-Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas lights
-Charlie Brown movies
-the pool with Memere and Pepere
-camping with Nana, Grampa, and your cousins and aunts
-loud motorcycles and rides in the dump truck
-lots of hugs and kisses
-lots of loud family parties and dinners

I can't wait to take you to meet all your friends and relatives so they can go on about how cute you are!  You have lots of people on the outside who love you already and can't wait to meet you.  So come out when you're ready, but don't take too long!!

Love,
Mom

38 weeks, 5 days

How far along? 38 weeks 5 days

Weight gain: I've decided that all you need to know is that it is more than 30 pounds, which is totally normal. ;)

Belly measurement:  45 and 3/8"

Stretch marks? Yup.  Under my belly and breasts.

Sleep? It depends on what is going on in my life.  Some nights I sleep really well, others I don't.  I still enjoy an afternoon nap.

Best moment this week? No more work!!  Although this followed a bit of a health scare for me, it's still nice to not have that stress right now.  I wasn't feeling well on Monday and decided to go into the doctor and my blood pressure was a little high.  The doctor decided I should just take the rest of the week off to rest so that it wouldn't get worse, and thankfully at my appointment this week, it went back down.

Food cravings: nothing really

Weirdest symptom: The pelvic pain has switched to back pressure.  I still feel like my pelvic bones are separating but now I can feel pressure on my tailbone.

Funny Pregnancy Moment: I can't think of one from this week...

Labor signs: 1 cm dilated, still.  Although it's a "good 1 cm" meaning its not facing back and it's soft.  My belly seems to have dropped over the last few days, too, and I've been quite crampy.  Seems like mostly gas cramps though.

Belly button in or out? Sometimes, one side pokes out, but never the entire thing.  Belly buttons are definitely weird

Movement? I can definitely feel actual body parts now.  Like a foot sticking out, or a bum.  I feel a lot more movement lower, from his head and shoulders, than I had before, too.

What I miss? I don't miss anything this week ;)

What I'm looking forward to:  Getting to meet the little guy.  I can't wait to see who he looks like ;)

Weekly wisdom:  FYI - "OMG you're so big!!" isn't a compliment.  Especially if you're not close family or friend.  Yes, I'm aware that I am the size of a house, I know that I'm waddling.  A comment about how cute my belly is or how big the baby is getting is a little bit nicer.  I'm not overly sensitive about this, but it's difficult when someone you barely now yells about how big you are and expects a kind smile in return.

Milestones: Almost done!  Down into single digits now

For comparison:

Me at 35 weeks:

Me at 38 weeks 5 days, definitely hanging a little lower!

The not-so weekly, I'm a slacker, poll

How far along? 37 weeks 3 days

Weight gain: Up 30 total, that's 6 pounds in 2 weeks.  Although I'm making myself feel better by saying that it's mostly water weight.  Each of my feet must have gained a pound, and my hands probably half a pound each in swelling alone.  I'm still in denial about the size of my butt, but we'll deal with that later.

Belly measurement:

Stretch marks? Yup.  I found them.  Under my belly and breasts.  Sorry Playboy, I'm going to have to cancel that photo shoot...

Sleep? I'm peeing a lot still, but now I'm also suffering from allergies.  So I can't breathe through my nose or I have snot leaking out of it anytime I lay down.  I like naps.

Best moment this week? A surprise shower at school.  It was sooo nice.  I wasn't expecting anything and it was fun to get some more clothes and baby things!

Food cravings: Nothing out of the ordinary this week (except the left over ice cream cake that is calling my name from the freezer).  Orange juice is still my favorite in the morning.

Weirdest symptom: pelvic pain.  It feels like what I would imagine my pelvic bones separating would feel like.  I read somewhere that people feel like the baby is just going to fall out, and that is definitely what it feels like.  Although I know it won't be that easy.

Funny Pregnancy Moment: One day last week one of my students asked me if I'd had the baby yet... when I asked him if he thought it looked like I'd had the baby he said "well maybe that's a different baby in there"

Labor signs: 1 cm dilated.  Even the doctor was surprised.  Although this doesn't really mean anything by way of when the baby will get here, it's good to know that things are progressing in the right direction.  I'm also starting to get some period like cramps here and there.

Belly button in or out? still in, but I think it's going to stay in, now.  Although today the "hot poker in the belly button" pain from 2nd trimester has returned, so we shall see

Movement? He was all over the place in church on Sunday, so much so that my mom actually finally got to see him move.  He gets the hiccups all the time, too.

What I miss? I don't miss anything this week ;)

What I'm looking forward to:  Getting to meet the little guy.  I can't wait to see who he looks like ;)

Weekly wisdom: Let friends and family know what time nap time is daily, that way you won't have any surprise guests or phone calls during nap time. The last 2 days in a row, I laid down for an afternoon nap and someone showed up at the door.  With 2 dogs, it's impossible to come near my house and not be noticed.  Luckily, I got to take a nap a little later.

Milestones: My ticker says he's the size of a watermelon... I believe it.  I kind of want to strap a watermelon to Mike and make him walk around with it for a little while... but I think that might be cruel and unusual punishment.

I'm going to put a belly picture in later... I forgot to have Mike take one last night!!

P.S. - I'd love to hear from anyone who reads!  Leave me a comment below ;), let me know about your blog, too, so I can kill time at work ;)

33 weeks - less than 50 days left!!!

How far along? 33 weeks

Weight gain: Up 19 total.  I gained 3 pounds at my last appointment, not bad.

Belly measurement: About 42 1/4" up an inch and a quarter!

Stretch marks? Not that I can see.

Sleep? It depends.  Some nights I'm up a lot and other nights I'm not.  But generally speaking, I have to roll over a few times and pee a few times so I'm up every few hours.

Best moment this week? Enjoying my last few days of summer vacation and getting some more fluff mail!  I had a coupon for 20% off at one of the cloth diaper websites, so I got 6 more bumGenius 4.0's (the new ones).  I wish they had more cute color choices though...

Food cravings: Sweets in general.  Just walking by a pastry shop or the candy aisle triggers a "gimme, gimme" response, just like a 5 year old.  Luckily, I haven't cried, screamed, or thrown a tantrum when Mike suggests I skip the sweets like a 5 year old, but we still have 7 weeks of pregnancy!

And I've been super thirsty, so a lot of water.

Weirdest symptom: I don't know if this qualifies as a symptom but I now have to do the double attempt when getting off the couch.  You know, the rocking motion to get some momentum. Cute.

Funny Pregnancy Moment: I'm a bridesmaid in my cousin Jen's wedding this weekend (soo exciting!) and I was discussing with Mike how I'm a little self conscious about being in front of people so pregnant and I said I was afraid I'd look like a big, purple, moose.  His response, "Wouldn't that be a hippopotamus?"  Thanks, babe.  Fortunately, I don't think I look like either and my cousin was so kind as to pick a dress that works with the baby bump!

Labor signs: Thankfully, nothing yet.  I went window shopping at the outlets yesterday, and I started to feel some stretching kind of pain in my lower abdomen which I think is most likely Ezra moving south.  I also can feel Braxton Hicks contractions every once in a while, but no pain, just tightening.

Belly button in or out? In, but definitely outward bound!

Movement? Mostly I can feel his feet in my ribs.  But at the dr's this week she showed me how to feel for his body parts.  He's still head down, which is great, but I can feel his little bum and his knees and feet now.  Sometimes I swear I can see his little foot trying to get out of my belly!

What I miss? Honestly, sleeping on my back.  When I have a headache/backache or I can't get to sleep, I could always fall asleep on my back, so sometimes its frustrating to not be able to lay on my back.

What I'm looking forward to: Shopping for baby clothes.  I've already started a little, and just getting a little taste I can tell it will be totally addicting.  Hopefully I don't require a shopping intervention in a few months.  It will be fun to see what he can actually fit into when he gets here and then be able to pick out some cute outfits for him.  I'm especially looking forward to putting him in something cute for Halloween!

I also have a gift certificate to a spa in town and I'm seriously contemplating a prenatal massage when I go back to work... that is something to look forward to!

Weekly wisdom:When 8 months pregnant, pay the money for a pedicure.  You really can't reach your feet no matter how you position the chair, table, ottoman.  It's a lost cause.

Milestones: The midwife confirmed that we will most likely be having an over 8 pound baby - just based on my height and how he "felt" in my belly.  Right now, he's supposedly around 4 - 4.5 pounds.  Halfway there baby!

Here's a belly picture:

Thursday, August 19, 2010

I know it's not the end of the week, but I'm doing the poll anyway ;)

How far along? 31 weeks 5 days

Weight gain: Up 16, yes I gained 6 pounds in three weeks.  I almost fell off the examination table at the doctor's office when she told me.  I'm still doing well at only 16 pounds at this point, so I can't complain.

Belly measurement: About 41"

Stretch marks? Not that I can see.

Sleep? I can honestly say, I think my body is trying to get me ready for having to get up every 2 hours with a little baby, so I'm up every 2 hours peeing, or switching sides, or just twiddling my thumbs.  At least I have 2 more weeks before I go back to work!

Best moment this week? My shower!!!  It was so much fun.  I got to see so many special ladies and I just felt so loved.  Ezra has some very cute clothes, and just about everything a new baby can need.  We got all the big ticket items, small ticket items, and very few duplicates as well as some very thoughtful handmade gifts.   His nursery is filled!  Now I just have to figure out where I'm going to put it all...

I'm going to do a separate shower post once my mom shares her pictures with me.

Food cravings: Strawberry poptarts and grilled bagels, YUM!

Weirdest symptom: Not necessarily weirdest but definitely most uncomfortable - Gas.  Sleep farts and sneak farts.  Apparently, while taking a nap, I almost gassed my husband out of the living room unbeknownst to me.  Sorry hunny.  And sometimes, just from standing up, walking, moving, or any other activity, one sneaks out.  Fortunately, it hasn't occurred in any really embarrassing situations, but I think it's only a matter of time...

Funny Pregnancy Moment: I went to a Red Sox game with my family last night and the man sitting at the table behind us sucked the ketchup out of a ketchup packet.  Yes, he put an open ketchup packet in his mouth and proceeded to suck the ketchup out of it.  Twice.  I gagged.  I think my mom thought I was going to throw up on her. But, seriously dude, you're in public and you look like a moron.  I was surprised how little control I had over my own gag reflex.  Pregnancy is definitely weird.

Belly button in or out? In, but definitely outward bound!

Movement? Mostly at night, another reason why I'm awake.  I think my ribs bother him because he's always trying to push them out of the way.  Sometimes I feel like my entire belly is jumping up and down!  And I can feel hiccups pretty much daily now which is fun and exciting!

What I miss? Nothing

What I'm looking forward to: Maternity leave, lol.  I am not looking forward to going back to work in 2 weeks (well less than 2 weeks, but I'm trying to pysch myself out).  I just know it's going to be sooooo hard to go back to work, the bigger I'm getting.  I just keep telling myself "it's only 6 weeks, it's only 6 weeks."

Weekly wisdom: If you are waiting in a line to go to the bathroom, say at Fenway Park, and all you are going to do is change your shirt in one of the 4 stalls, please let the pregnant lady go in front of you.  And that goes for your friend, too.  Because I almost peed on the floor.

Milestones: "They" say he's between 3.5 and 4 pounds this week.  I have to say I've been neglecting my pregnancy books so that's all I've got... ;)

Just for comparison...

Today, 31 weeks 5 days

28 weeks

So I guess 6 pounds in 3 weeks is totally believable...

More Nursery

This week, the nursery was painted!!! Yippee!! It looks soooooo great.

I also almost finished the bumper. It's in the crib right now because I love the way it looks, but I need to sew up one of the ends and consult someone who knows what they're doing to help me. Now that it's mostly done, I feel better about having decided to do it. It looks good and didn't really cost us anything!

Maybe someone wants to show me how to sew curtains??? hint hint

This week I've been scouring the internet for a painting or wall hanging to put in the baby's room. I have been trying to decide what the "theme" for the room is, because there really isn't one except stripes and polka dots. I'm thinking something with dogs would be fun, and then I can sneak a little snoopy in there without it looking weird.

I started off with ebay and Amazon, and completely forgot about Etsy!!! It's a sight with all handmade items. You can find some really great hand made, one of a kind things for just about anything. I found a few paintings that I liked:

These two from SunnyDaysStudio

I'm feeling like I might be able to do something more inspired by the fabric but kind of like the one with the circles myself, but I'm afraid to take on another craft project, lol. I love, love, love, the one with the dog. It's a 12x12 collage, which is small and could probably be incorporated somewhere, too.

I also like this wall decal from designaline:

I'd probably get it in brown and put it over the baby's crib under a shelf of some kind.

And I found this decal at extradesign that I was thinking would be cute over the door or the closet door. I don't know how I feel about the sleep bubbles...

I found 2 Charlie Brown lamps that I like, too, that I think would be cute in the room without it being too Peanuts.

So peel your eyes for some cute dog-themed items and let me know if you find anything you think I'd like!

How far along? 29 weeks

Weight gain: Up 10

Belly measurement: 40 1/2, up an inch and a quarter. WOW!

Stretch marks? Nope

Sleep? Is not going so well. I seem to be having trouble sleeping past 6:30. I don't know what that's about. Hopefully it's just short term

Best moment this week? Painting the room and almost finishing the bumper. I just love that it is all coming together and it makes me even more excited to meet the little guy.

Food cravings: Not really. I'm just back to bottomless pit. I could eat all day long. Yesterday I had breakfast, a snack, lunch, three snacks, dinner, and a snack before bed. I'm not sure where all the food is going (probably it will show up on my thighs or butt in a few days) but I seem to be hungry, even after I eat.

Weirdest symptom: Brace yourself..... my nipples are leaking. This was not expected for maybe 2 more months and I thought maybe something was wrong with me for a day or so. It's quite interesting (read: frightening) that my body is already preparing for an outside baby when I don't feel the least bit prepared for an outside baby. I'm sure I'll never be as prepared as I'd like to be...

Funny Pregnancy Moment: Chili's for lunch - my chicken sandwich had lettuce and tomatoes on it when it came to the table and I cried. Yes, I cried. ::head desk:: Mike just said "Seriously?" and shook his head. Hey, I'm hungry and hormonal. Get my order correct and we can avoid mood swings. The waiter is lucky this one went to tears and not yelling. It could've been much worse.

Belly button in or out? In, back to the center

Movement? Yup, and it's fun to watch him from the outside and wonder what body part we're seeing. I do think I'll miss the feeling of him in there after I have him. Although it will be just as much fun to watch him squirm from the outside, there is something so wonderful about having him so close and all to myself.

What I miss? Nothing

What I'm looking forward to: My shower. I know it is approaching, and I'm not good with surprises. I don't know if you can tell but I'm a planner and it's hard for me to let things go. Hopefully I don't give M and anxiety attack over it, but I'm trying to be mellow. It's not easy.

Weekly wisdom: I got nothin' this week.

Milestones: According to theBump.com I have a squash in there. His eyes and ears are working and he's getting fat stores which mean he's more active. I can definitely agree.

Me and Ezra at 29 weeks:

Just an update

Nothing exciting has really happened this week. M is still recovering from the accident and trying not to take so many pain pills, but he still can't sit still for very long. I think this might be one of those neverending things - less pills, more movement, more pain, up the pills again. Hopefully he doesn't over do it too much or try to go back to work too early. (Riiiiiiiiiggght)

With M being out of work, this means we are together all day - every day. This has been interesting. It was nice to be able to do car shopping during the day, but I think we're starting to get to the "I love you, please go away" stage. No major fights, just a lot of crabbiness (then add my out of whack hormones and you can end up with a mess, will comment more on this later).

We did finally get a new "whip" (Mom, whip=car, ride, etc.). An 03 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I love it. I've never ever had a car with leather, a sun roof, heated seats, and all kinds of other gadgets that I don't know how to work yet and probably don't need. Although in value, it's kind of a lateral move from my Pontiac, it definitely has a lot more luxuries and is definitely going to work for toting groceries and moving kids.

M had to point out that it has a trailer hitch so I'll be able to tow Ezra's dirtbike to practice during the week. LOL Can you already feel the pressure, Little One??

Here's a picture:

I finally finished the crib skirt - with only two days of tears, swearing, and occasional complete emotional breakdowns. I really almost threw in the towel and found a crib set online - but then I remembered we already bought the paint for the room and I'm sure it would be impossible to find something that we both liked (HA!) AND matched the paint. So I sucked it up.

This is where we talk about my hormones. I feel like I'm on a roller coaster with a blindfold on. I have no clue when or where I'm going to start yelling, crying, or swearing. It's definitely funny... in retrospect. M might not agree with me.

The sewing project definitely strained my hormones, I think they might've pulled a muscle. I made a rookie error and measured wrong (M's a carpenter so this is even more ironic because he helped me measure, lol), and then I had to sew some of the seams like 3 times because the length/width/overall straightness was off.

Also, picture pregnant me and disabled M trying to put the crib back together and get the skirt on straight. Then add some yelling, some tears, and eventually someone else coming over to help M do it. I think M has mastered the "you are nuts" look but he's also able to just shut up and let the storm pass. Smart man.

Here's a picture of the skirt:

So for the weekly poll:

How far along? 28 weeks

Weight gain: Up 10

Belly measurement: 39 1/4 inches around, up 1/4 inch since last week. It feels like 6 inches

Stretch marks? Nope

Sleep? Frequency of peeing has definitely increased and my ability to get in and out of bed has definitely decreased so we have some Olympic activity about every 1.5 hours in our bedroom (and this is not the fun kind).

This usually involves me twisted up in the sheets and comforter trying to get my beloved Boyfriend (that's my Snoogle pillow in case you forgot) out of the way or back in place without dislocating any joints or further injuring my husband. To add insult to injury, it feels like I haven't peed in 4 days, but when I actually pee, I get it like 2.5 drops. Very anticlimactic.

Best moment this week? Finishing the crib skirt without seriously physically injuring myself or others (although a few feelings may have been hurt in the process, we'll recover)

Food cravings: Anything that doesn't make me want to vomit. 2 friends that I haven't seen since the first trimester have returned, Nausea and Indigestion. They weren't invited, they aren't very good house guests. I feel like a Pepto-Bismol commercial. So I don't think I'm craving anything, but I'm definitely staying far far away from spicy foods (in theory, see below).

Weirdest symptom: The other day when I got out of the shower, my belly button was a good inch to 2 inches to the right. M confirmed it, although, Ezra must've moved because it is now back to a more appealing central position.

Funny Pregnancy Moment: At the appointment, the doctor put the doppler on my belly to measure his heart rate and she kind of has to push into my belly to get it. Well, she pushed down and Ezra pushed back. It was hilarious. The entire doppler moved. All the doctor could say was "I guess he didn't like that!"

Belly button in or out? In, a little to the right

Movement? All the time, at least once an hour I feel something. Although, whenever my mother is around he is as still as can be. It's almost funny. She can't wait to see my belly move, but no matter what I've eaten - he's as quiet as a mouse. Hopefully she'll have the same effect on him on the outside.

What I miss? Nothing

What I'm looking forward to: Now finishing the crib bumper. I'm about halfway there, and hopefully it looks magical when it's done.

Weekly wisdom: Follow your gut. Sour Cream and Onion chips seemed like a bad idea... they were. Add to the list - garlic bread (I didn't know it was garlic until we read the bill at the end of the meal), Papa Gino's pizza, ranch dressing, Vegetable crisp crackers, and Cheez-IT party mix.

You think that it will be worth the upset stomach you know you'll have after... but it never is.

Also, take out stock in Tums.

Milestones: I'm now down to every 2 week visits for the next 2 months. I can't believe it's going by so fast!

Watch out for trees...

I was gently reminded by a cousin that I've neglected to update my blog. Life's been a little wild this past week, hence the title of this post.

Last Saturday, on the way to a wedding, my husband and I slid off the highway, down and embankment, and not-so-gently into a pine tree. Here are some photos of my beloved Grand Prix, may she rest in peace:

Needless to say, M, the driver, escaped death one more time in his life. He ended up with 10 fractured ribs (yes 10) and a fractured vertebrae (but not a serious injury). He also got to stay at Rhode Island Hospital for 2 days. Right now we're just trying to manage his pain with some heavy duty drugs so that he continues to breathe until his ribs heal. Which could be anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

I ended up with mostly bruises. It looked like I got into a serious fist fight and did not come out on top. I have one of those fun technicolor bruises on my leg that looks more disgusting as each day passes, and a black eye. But baby Ezra is fine. I got to stay in the trauma center for about 4 hours and then at Women and Infants for another 4 hours of monitoring. On the bright side, I did get to see the little guy again via ultrasound (yes, he's still a he) and once again the doctor commented on how active he is. He's no longer breech and has his head down, which is progress!

As much as the accident was scary, I just thank God that we are all OK. I can remember being hysterical telling the EMT's that I'm pregnant and I need to go to the hospital right away - I can honestly say that once I saw that M was breathing and conscious, I was more concerned about Ezra's little life than I was about either of ours.

In true pregnant lady form, I did request a large vanilla milkshake to come to the hospital with my parents at 11pm at night. Hey, I was hungry and injured.... and it was delicious.

Now the search begins for a true mom-mobile - a soccer-mom-in-training, grocery toting, kid mover. We were planning to get an SUV sometime next year, but have decided to use the insurance money from my car to get something now - although probably not as new or as nice as a year of saving would have gotten us, but nice enough. I'm sure I will update you all with pictures of the new vehicle when we find it.

In other news, the day after the accident I hosted a bridal shower for a very special cousin of mine at my house. Thanks to the help of my father in law, Erin, Matt, Chris, Jess, Heather, Nichole, Justine, and Heather T, it went off with out a hitch. I really wasn't moving very fast or getting very much done and even though I didn't have M's help to set up, my friends, family, and the other bridesmaids really helped a TON.

We went with a cheesy Vegas theme. Here are some photos of the party on the newly completed patio:

Another cousin sent me a box of baby stuff last weekend too. The baby's room is starting to fill up with stuff! It's so exciting

I can't thank her enough for all the great stuff that I now don't have to purchase on my own! It included a My Breast Friend breast feeding pillow, a baby positioning pillow, some nursing pads, and a whole bunch of adorable baby clothes. Thanks again Danielle!! I'm sure Ezra will be proud to wear Jack's hand-me-downs ;)

Now for the weekly poll:

How far along? 27 weeks

Weight gain: Up 8, according to M's mom's scale, we'll see at the Dr's next week.

Per M's request, Belly measurement: 39 inches around

Stretch marks? Nope

Sleep? Going well, although Ezra does his aerobics at night now so sometimes I'm awake because my son is beating me from the inside or pushing on vital organs

Best moment this week? This is a toughy, but probably seeing him again on ultrasound. Sometimes I need to be reminded that there really is a baby in there

Food cravings: Still ice cream or anything cold like frozen lemonade.

My BFF Shannon also cooked me and M 5 meals, yes 5 meals. She's the best and I almost cried when she offered to cook us one meal, so 5 is just incredible. She's a great cook, too, and this means I don't have to go grocery shopping for a few more days!! So my new craving is anything I don't have to cook myself...

Weirdest symptom: my equilibrium is starting to be off... I almost fell while walking through a hallway. It was embarrassing, but it was like I just almost fell over, luckily there was a wall to catch me.

Funny Pregnancy Moment: Me on a stretcher, laying on my side propped up on pillows, being admitted to Women and Infants with a large vanilla milkshake from Burger King. Classic.

And watching Knocked Up on the TV at the hospital that specializes in delivering babies. It reminded me of when they played Titanic endlessly on our family cruise to Bermuda. Ironic.

Belly button in or out? In

Movement? All the time, at least once an hour I feel something

What I miss? Nothing

What I'm looking forward to: Finishing the baby room. I didn't get anything done this week, I need to get my butt in gear!

I'm also looking forward to my shower. I have no idea when it is and everyone seems to be doing a good job keeping the date under wraps... hopefully I'll look cute that day!!

Weekly wisdom: Don't be afraid to accept help. I always have a hard time letting people do things for me, but I have to say that this week I needed lots of help and I'm so so so happy to have so many great family and friends!!

Milestones: Third trimester!! The 3rd trimester officially starts at 26 weeks 6 days, so we are on our way to an outside baby!

New Weekly Poll

I've decided to change some of the questions in the weekly poll, because they don't entirely apply to me and I feel like I'm always saying the same thing. I'm going to *try* to do it every Friday morning, since I'm home for the summer this shouldn't be a problem... although if you know me I definitely have a hard time getting things done on time!

This week, there isn't a whole lot of baby news. A coworker of my mothers gave me a TON of her old boy clothes this week. It was soooo fun going through it all and imagining a little body in them!! Not to mention, it was a lot of clothes and it will be helpful to avoid having to do both diaper and baby clothes laundry every day.

I also started reading a book about labor, called Easy Labor: Every Woman's Guide to Choosing Less Pain and More Joy During Childbirth. It's not as earthy-crunchy, avoid-the-pain-meds, as the title sounds. It basically gives a run down of what happens in the delivery room, who's there, and what options that you have for pain relief - from epidurals to breathing techniques. It gives perspectives from women and doctors about their experiences with each technique, good and bad.

I'm impressed at how easily it lays out each option and lets you know what the risks are and what information out there is a little exaggerated. It gives lots of scientific study information, without boring the shorts off you. If you're having a baby soon, plan to have a baby, one day, or know someone who is, it's a great book - just to give you your options. It's not judgy at all like some of the natural birth books can tend to be.

Another bonus, I got it used on amazon for less than 5 bucks with shipping... awesome!

How far along? 24 weeks 6 days

Weight gain: Up 5

Stretch marks? Just itchy belly, no stretch marks yet.

Sleep? I'm having a harder time getting comfortable, and I find that naps during the day are more productive than sleeping at night sometimes. I still desperately want to sleep on my back!!

Best moment this week? starting the crib set... (I'm lying a little because I just washed the fabric, but it's the first step...)

Food cravings: Anything cold - popsicles, Del's, ice cream, freeze pops - I have to force myself to drive away from the Del's in town, otherwise the car stops there and I can't control it!

Weirdest symptom: Probably itchy belly right now. I feel like Homer Simpson walking around scratching my belly... but it feels so good!!

Funny Pregnancy Moment: A little girl at church asked me to lift up my shirt so she could see the baby - like I was just carrying it under my shirt. LOL, I love kids...

Belly button in or out? In, but moving outward. I can actually see the end of my belly button now, where I have always had a super deep one

Movement? Constant. It's so fun to see my belly jump sometimes!

What I miss? Nothing

What I'm looking forward to: Finishing the baby room. I can't wait until it's complete! I'm also still waiting for nesting to kick in...

Weekly wisdom: Always pee before leaving for the grocery store. You will have to pee as soon as you hit the meat section... and grocery store bathrooms are always nasty.

Milestones: Viability - at about 24 weeks your baby has a 50 - 70% chance of survival if born early. The percentage goes up with each day that passes from this point. So our chances of an outside baby have gone up significantly in just one week!

Here's a picture of M and I going to a wedding. It's not really a great "bump" shot, but I like the "family" photo!

Please tell me to put the credit card down...

So, I've been buying a few baby things lately. It's like once I started I can't stop. Not to mention the Target discount doesn't help.

I think it started because we just finished our registry. By "we" I mean "I," Mike proved a little too overzealous for the scanner gun, and I ended up deleting more than we kept. "No dear, we don't need 13 different types of wipes, but thanks for suggesting it." We now have a registry at Babies 'r' Us and Target, plus one at kellyscloset.com (password is 1234 if you want to check it out) for cloth diaper stuff.

I bought this cute outfit for Mike, it says "Chicks dig scars." If you know him at all, you'll get it.

They also had a serious baby sale at Target. I scored a nice, rocking, wooden bassinet for almost 50 bucks off.

I also got a Graco Snugride car seat and Snap-n-go stroller combination for 75% off (plus discount). I'd kind of been stalking it since we saw it get marked down about a month ago. I didn't think they'd have one left by the time it went to 75% off. It's not the carseat we want, but we'll either sell it for a little bit of money to someone who needs it or give it to my parents to use. The Snap-n-Go stroller goes for $70 at BRU. I couldn't pass the deal up, I got the carseat and the stroller for less than half of what the snap-n-go goes for. Sweet Deal.

This isn't the pattern we got, but it is the set.

I know I've been slacking on the weekly poll, and I promise the next post will be nursery dedicated. :)

Here's me at 21 weeks

How far along? 21 weeks

Weight gain/loss: Last appointment I was up 3, so still down 2 overall, but I think in the last two weeks I've definitely gained. Please see the cravings section and you'll understand why.

Maternity clothes? All the time, and I did squeeze myself into a bikini this weekend. I decided after trying on a few maternity bathing suits that I would be more comfortable bearing the belly.

Stretch marks? Not yet!

Sleep? The peeing is getting really annoying, but otherwise I'm sleeping fine. I do enjoy a good nap, too.

Best moment this week? Shopping!!

Food cravings: Ice cream - like a turn around and go back to Dairy Queen craving. It's insane. (and a little embarrassing)

Gender: Boy! We are most likely going to go with Ezra as the name, too. We've both loved that name for a while.

Belly button in or out? In, and my hot-poker belly button pain seems to have passed. For about 2 weeks I couldn't laugh because it hurt my belly button. Very strange.

Movement? Feels like he's jumping around a lot. Feels like gas/digestion, but much more frequent and noticeable. Usually he's active when I'm not. I'm sure this trend will continue through college.

What I miss? Nothing

What I'm looking forward to: Outside kicks. I can't wait for M to feel him.

Weekly wisdom: Today I am pregnant, and I love my baby.

Milestones: Half baked!!

My New Obsession

Custom Crib set designing websites.

This one is great www.javisdavis.com

They let you take fabrics that are already grouped and mess around with how you use them. Too much fun. (They are a little pricey, but totally cute) It gives me a little more confidence about how to make my own. Here's some of the ones I came up with just now!

Like I said, my new obsession. There are a few others out there that let you do the same, but this one by far has my favorite fabric choices. If you're bored, check it out. It'll eat up a few hours of your time. ;) The sets on this site will run you close to 300 bucks - so another reason why I would make my own, I'm cheap.

Here's the weekly poll:

How far along? 16 weeks 2 days

Weight gain/loss: Holding steady at down 5 pounds. Remember, I don't own a scale, so I only weigh myself once a month ;)

Maternity clothes? All the time, depending on what I wear, I either don't look pregnant at all, completely pregnant, or a few cheeseburgers past skinny

Stretch marks? Not yet!

Sleep? I'm sleeping well this week, when I'm not passing a kidney stone

Best moment this week? Wearing my first maternity dress to a shower! Everyone said I looked so cute, I love the compliments. :)

Food cravings: I have a wicked sweet tooth right now, more so than usual. I have to be careful...

Gender: Still thinking boy, we'll see in a few weeks

Belly button in or out? In

Movement? I'm still trying to feel something, but I haven't yet. I'm hoping this week or next week somtime.

What I miss? Nothing

What I'm looking forward to: The BIG ultrasound and getting to register for all the baby stuff in a few weeks

Weekly wisdom: Today I am pregnant, and I love my baby.

Milestones: Blood work complete, unless there are more problems!

Houston, we have a nursery!!

M and his friends set everything up yesterday and I go in the room every chance I get just to look at it all. I had a little buyers remorse after we bought the furniture, but now that it's home and I get to see it again, I love it even more and know it was the right choice!!

Here are a few photos (we'll probably be rearranging the furniture a little, but right now it doesn't really matter)

We had a doctor's appointment on Friday, too. I will never, ever, ever go to the Providence office again. We waited for an hour and 15 minutes. I had to send M to find rations because I hadn't eaten a big enough breakfast, and I had to pee in a cup and keep it in a paper bag at my chair (yes, I was that girl)until we went in because I couldn't hold it any longer. Back to the smaller office I go.

We got to hear the baby's heartbeat again, it was in the 150's, and the doctor almost seemed surprised at how "strong" it was. Which makes me excited! It is the most beautiful sound I've ever heard!

We will be scheduling the "BIG" ultrasound for about 3 1/2 weeks from now, hopefully we can fit it in with our next appointment. Unfortunately the smaller office wasn't open on Friday so I have to wait until tomorrow to actually make the appointment. I can't wait to see the baby again and get to find out if we have a boy or a girl. We have a lot more choices to make, and it will be fun to get to start thinking about bedding, and other options.

In other news, M finished the patio in the back, and it is BEAUTIFUL! He is so great at what he does. I can't wait to have a BBQ back there, get the pool set up and really be able to enjoy our backyard. We just need to get some grass growing where we had to tear up the lawn, but otherwise it looks great!

We also got to go to a Red Sox game on Friday with some close friends. It was a lot of fun!

Now for the weekly update!

How far along? 15 weeks 1 day

Weight gain/loss: Holding steady at down 5 pounds. I almost can't believe it with how my clothes are fitting, but I'm trusting the Dr's scale!

Maternity clothes? Pretty much all the time. I can still get away with regular shirts, but my choices are limited. I've started putting away some clothes to make room for the maternity clothes that I have.

Stretch marks? Not yet!

Sleep? Ok, but I'm having a hard time not sleeping on my back. I always seem to wake-up on my back, and then I feel like a bad mom which keeps me awake for a little longer. It's so hard not to stress the little things!

Best moment this week? Setting up the crib

Food cravings: Not really, I'm eating most of the normal foods, but I'm a little sad that Kraft mac and cheese is now making me nauseous.

Gender: Still thinking boy, we'll see in a few weeks

Belly button in or out? In

Movement? I don't think I've felt anything. Sometimes when I'm laying in bed I try to concentrate to see if I'm feeling anything, but there's nothing. I'm hoping to get some flutters within a few weeks.

What I miss? Nothing right now, I feel great and anything I have to complain about just isn't worth it!

What I'm looking forward to: The BIG ultrasound and getting to register for all the baby stuff in a few weeks

Weekly wisdom: Today I am pregnant, and I love my baby.

Milestones: 3rd appointment!

First baby purchase

And it was a big one!!

We started shopping for our nursery set this weekend, I just couldn't wait and know that eventually we'll need the furniture even if (God forbid) something awful happened. Originally I wanted a black crib, but that has been pretty impossible to find. Most companies that make black furniture make it "rubbed" which means its almost antiqued and looks a little country. We are not country. Exnay on the rubbing.

The other snafu was that most of the black or really dark licorice stained furniture was also outrageously expensive. The salesman today basically told us that black doesn't sell so no one makes it. Awesome. Move to plan B.

For this reason we started looking at Espresso finish furniture which is basically really dark brown. Definitely not black, and wouldn't really go with the black white yellow thoughts I was having so we decided to not really care so much about the finish and just find a set that we love love loved. We still like the dark finish more than white or light stain.

So we went to Baby Boudoir which was interesting to say the least! In Baby Bargains someone wrote in the it is a "rusty warehouse in a bad neighborhood" - which is totally true. It was almost comical how everything is set up. The bathroom didn't have a lock and there was a hole in the ceiling - no joke. However, they had a TON of stuff at awesome prices and the people that worked there totally knew their stuff. In order to get upstairs to all the good stuff, you had to walk outside, up the loading dock, in a small door, through a narrow hallway and up some more stairs. I was worried we were in some kind of scary movie for a minute.

They had more cribs than anything I've ever seen. Everything was set-up with prices and some really great package deals. We found a few things that we liked and ended up deciding on the Sorelle Maxine set. We got the crib (sleigh convertible), toddler bed rail, armoire, dresser with hutch, night stand, mattress, and changing pad all for about what we would have paid for a new 3 piece Munire set. Orginally price $3500, we paid less than half.

It's solid birch with a traditional cherry finish (which we discovered is more brown than red). We actually bought the floor model of all of the furniture, which is part of why we got such a great deal, but at this store they don't see nearly as many fingers, jacket zippers, and purses than they would somewhere else. There was no damage that we could see. Can't wait to pick it up on Friday!!

If you live anywhere near New Bedford (even hours away) go to Baby Boudoir. If you can't find something you love there I'd be surprised!!

Otherwise, I also bought a snoogle. Which is my new favorite person. It is basically a C-shaped pillow that wraps around your body to give your back and hips support. It is so comfortable and has helped with the minor back pain that I've been having. It also helps me stay sleeping on my side throughout the night.

Here is the weekly (well almost weekly) poll:

How far along? 14 weeks 1 day

Weight gain/loss:
I will let you know next week when I have my next appointment.

Maternity clothes?
Most days I have maternity pants but I can still get away with regular shirts.

Stretch marks? Not from this angle ;)

Sleep? Fabulous now that I have a Snoogle!!

Best moment this week? Buying the crib, officially making it into 2nd tri

Food cravings: Nothing I want to brag about, lol

Gender: Still thinking boy, but who knows!

Belly button in or out? In

Movement? nope, too early

What I miss? I miss excederine this week. Aspirin just isn't helping my constant headaches!!

What I'm looking forward to: Next appointment on Friday. I'm hoping to hear the heartbeat and then find out when we get to see what this baby is packing!

Weekly wisdom: Today I am pregnant, and I love my baby.

Milestones: 2nd Trimester!!

An update

So this week has been fairly uneventful. I had my appointment last Wednesday and all was well. The doctor was able to find the babe's heartbeat in like 10 seconds, which completely calmed me. It was wonderful to hear, she actually said "Sounds like a girl." I guess the heart was beating fast! She didn't give me the actual rate, which is fine, because we all know I can't stay away from google.

This week M started working on the patio in the back. He's laid off for a few weeks and he wants to get it done before the weather gets too nice. Our backyard is basically completely dug-up right now, but I have faith that he knows what he's doing and it will look beautiful. I can't wait to have enough space to actually push the chairs away from the table when we are using the patio!

On other exciting news, my cousin in FL had her baby this week!! A beautiful little boy named Jack. She bragged on facebook that she only had to push for 20 minutes, I'm hoping that runs in the family...

We've also spread the news about the baby a little bit more. I told some of the teachers that I work with at school, and we all know that in a building full of women, that the entire town will know by the end of the week. I figured I'm at a safe point right now and I don't need to worry. Not to mention one of my co-workers that I had to tell decided to spill the beans when I was only 7 weeks to another teacher in the district. It would only have been a matter of time before it reached my school and parents would be calling me to ask. I'd rather have a little bit of control over the situation.

For the weekly poll thing...

How far along? 11 weeks 2 days

Weight gain/loss: Still down 5 pounds, no gain... yet

Maternity clothes? My BFF just gave me a huge bag full of her maternity clothes and non-maternity bloat hiding clothes. I can't wait to jump into it!!

Stretch marks? Not from this angle ;)

Sleep? I wake up at least twice during the night, but I do love taking afternoon naps!

Best moment this week? Heartbeat!!

Food cravings: nothing this week, but I'm starting to feel better so I'm trying to be a little bit healthier

Gender: Still thinking boy, but apparently the heart rate says girl, we shall see!

Belly button in or out? In

Movement? nope, too early

What I miss? I don't miss anything, because I'll take all the symptoms over 'not pregnant' any day

What I'm looking forward to: Feeling even better. I'm hoping that by this weekend I might be back to normal. I started doing housework this weekend which I take to be a good sign, but today I'm not feeling as well...

Weekly wisdom: Today I am pregnant, and I love my baby.

Milestones: Just the heart beat with the doppler!!
